Extempore (adverb): “Without prior preparation”
As a musician, I wanted to capture the creative force I experience with musical improvisation in my painting. While the crows were indeed planned and sketched in advance, all of the “background” vignettes were doodled stream-of-conscious directly with paint on the canvas.
The entire composition is a collection of short stories creating a landscape to be explored from above, with the crows lifting you to this perspective (one of the working titles for this piece was “Lift”).
